After an enjoyable lunch at
Biota Dining, Bowral, the group headed off south to Bernie's Diner.

Entrance of Diner |
Set in Moss Vale, Bernie's Diner resembles the classic American diner from the 1950-70's (à la
Grease) with bright red bar stools and booth seating, and a black and white checked floor. Their menu here is actually rather extensive and included burgers, sides, drinks, dessert - oh the choices...

As there was so much to choose from, and due to the lack of free seating, we took our time deciding what to order. We ended up ordering and sharing the food among the five of us and got to sit at a booth when it became available, as we waited for our orders to be fulfilled.

Caramel Sundae ($8) |
The sundae looked amazing - just like something you'd expect from a old-school diner, complete with the mound of whipped cream, ample caramel sauce, chopped nuts and a cherry on top. Surprisingly the ice cream was also caramel-flavoured, although it was slightly icy.

Pecan Pie, served with Whipped Cream ($8 per slice) |
The pecan pie was also accompanied by a large amount of whipped cream and tasted like it had a layer of date paste below the pecan topping. Taste-wise, it was not too sweet and crunchy with the ample pecan but I though that the pie base was too soft and sticky from the pecan/date filling - it could have been improved by being par-baked for longer so that it was harder and crumbly in texture but this may just be personal preference.

Cheese Fries ($8) |
This was a clear favourite across the group with the melted cheese coating the exterior of the fries. Apparently grated cheese is mixed with the fries in a large bowl to ensure all the fries are coated in cheese before it is placed on the serving trays. Maybe there wasn't enough cheese added into the mix but the fries near the bottom weren't covered with much cheese (motto: more is better).

Outside of Diner |
Overall, an interesting concept of an old-school diner but probably too far to visit again unless I was driving down south and needed a decent food pit-stop.
Across the road from Bernie's is Leighton Gardens, which had some awesome flower display filled with a variety of tulips:
