Gelato Messina HQ & More, Rosebery

Following on from our lunch at the Three Blue Ducks, we continued on our food crawl in search of dessert.

Messina HQ

Located diagonally across the block from the Saporium car park, is the Gelato Messina HQ, which offers gelato and cakes to passing customers, and appears to be the location of their cooking classes.

There are large glass windows that allow customers to look into their factory kitchen where they create and churn their large selection of gelato and sorbets - oh, the choices... :

The girls in the group seemed more eager to satisfy their sweet tooths and most bought gelato. I chose their Tram City B***h with caramel malt gelato and caramel miso brownie:

Tram City B***h ($4.80)

You could seriously taste the individual caramel, malt and miso flavours! Together, the gelato actually tasted similar to the salted caramel. The only issue for me was that partway through eating the gelato, there was a moment in which my mouth was full of the caramel miso brownie and I must have hit a mother lode of miso (not mixed in properly?) because it was super salty. Aside from that, I thoroughly enjoyed the gelato flavour.

Side Trip to Doux Amour & Belfield on Botany

The guys in the group were slightly hungry from lunch and had a hankering for burgers so I directed the group to Belfield on Botany, which is several hundred metres away. Since it's next to Doux Amour, home of the cute choux pastry, I decided to make a detour to check out which ones they had on offer (and ended up with an entourage of girls). Surprisingly, most of the flavours were available but the choux pastry was decidedly much smaller than when I bought them last time and much more expensive ($5.50 -> $7.40!!!):

I resisted and didn't purchase anything (*cries* so sad to see the massive price hike and smaller portions).

On the other hand, the guys went in search of their burgers at Belfield on Botany and ordered their choice of 'afternoon tea'. They seemed satisfied with their fried chicken & crispy bacon, plain cheeseburger, and Belfield cheeseburger (with the vegemite mayo) burgers.

Small buckets of potato gems and deep fried button mushrooms were shared among the group - for $5 each, these were pretty good value as the serving portions were very generous (potentially almost double the volume of small potato gems on offer at Royal Stacks, which were $3.90). The potato gems were served piping hot and golden brown, dusted in paprika/chilli powder, and got the tick of approval from around the table. The deep fried mushrooms were deemed not quite as good as the ones from Hot Star Chicken (I have yet to try this place), which use a different type of mushroom that is more 'meatier', and the batter wasn't quite right but they were still tasty.

Sorry, no pics from here.

Side note: Belfield seem to have changed their music so it's less 'hipster/rap' now.
