Creperie Suzette, The Rocks

Part of the Harbour Rocks Hotel, Creperie Suzette serves customers fresh coffee, galettes and crepes within a small cafe space hidden within The Rocks, Sydney. The cafe gets a lot of natural lighting through the large windows along Harrison St and has a distinct Parisian feel with the internal decor, exposed brick walls and vintage wall art.

Staff here originate from France so you can trust that they know their galettes and crepes. As part of this FCBA tasting event, guests were allowed to pick one savoury galette and one sweet crepe each, along with any choice of drink.

My partner in crime this time round was @eatwithkrit. Funnily, our first choice for galette and crepe were identical so we ended up each picking an alternative galette or crepe to achieve some variety and opted to share the dishes between the two of us.

Galettes
La Pekinoise ($15) - Peking Duck, Spring Onion,
Mature Cheddar Cheese and Hoisin Sauce
La Tasmanienne ($13) - Smocked Tasmanian Salmon,
Capers, Cream Fraiche and Fresh Dill

Before coming here, I had never heard of a galette before - it looks like a crepe but I believe it's made from a different type of flour (buckwheat? It's not quite as pale as the crepes and slightly thicker). Each galette was covered in cheese before being topped with smoked salmon or shredded Peking duck, along with various other complementary toppings. Although they tasted good, I thought the cheese made the galettes unexpectedly heavy, in comparison to the sweet crepes (potentially due to actual galette itself as well?).

Crepes
La Fraise ($12) - Fresh Strawberries,
Dark Chocolate Sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream and Walnuts

The La Fraise crepe was filled and covered with sliced strawberries and dark choc sauce, and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - ultimate strawberries & choc heaven. As galettes and crepes are freshly made to order, the heat from the crepe caused the ice cream to melt, creating a slow-running river of cream.

The La Grand Marnier crepe (sorry, no individual pic as I was too engrossed in eating the melting ice cream on the La Fraise) had grated orange peel and demerara sugar within the folded crepe and drizzled with syrup. The demerara sugar gave the crepe some crunch factor and the citrus flavour was a refreshing palate cleanser from the savoury galettes. All that was missing was a scoop of ice cream on top... 😢... or perhaps some fruit on top for better presentation.

Mocha with a Side of Choc ChipsHot Chocolate

For my drink, I ordered was a mocha - though I added all the additional choc chips, making the drink more of a hot chocolate-y drink - whilst @eatwithkrit ordered an actual hot choc.

The Makings of a La Fraise Crepe

(Unanimous) Favourite dish of the day - the La Fraise crepe.

I was so full from all this food that I ended up skipping dinner that night...

Disclaimer: MSG Cafeteria was invited as a guest of  Food Critics & Bloggers Australia to Creperie Suzette, and all food and drinks consumed were paid for by the cafe. Thanks to the team at Creperie Suzette, and the Harbour Rocks Hotel, for hosting and serving up some yummy treats!
