The Choc Pot, Rosebery

A few weeks ago, I was excited when one of the co-founders of The Choc Pot invited MSG Cafeteria to visit and sample some of their desserts and drinks at their branch in Rosebery. Unknowingly, I set a date/time on the one weekend that was forecast to rain more than the average rainfall for Jun in Sydney... Fortunately I made it to the cafe safe and relatively dry on a dreary, wet winter's day.

The Choc Pot, Rosebery, is situated directly next to the car park of the newly constructed Saporium, which currently houses a few cafes, a health food store, and a glasshouse-like structure at the centre that hosts cooking classes. Upon arrival, I took a brief walk inside the Saporium to check out the other open cafes/stores (as the centre is relatively new, some store spaces are still empty or have yet to open so watch this space), peered around, and then slowly made my way back go the cafe.

Having been to the Chatswood branch of The Choc Pot, I knew to expect the bright yellow/white chairs and wooden tables, which definitely stand out from the crowd. Fortunately the chairs here aren't the same as those supplied at Chatswood (yay!) although, to be safe, I sat on a bench this time:

There are a few new winter specials so I decided to select a drink and dessert from those:

Turkish Delight Tea x Dark Hot Chocolate ($6.50)Top View of Tea Hot Choc

The Turkish delight dark hot chocolate was absolutely divine - a dark hot chocolate with a distinct rosewater smell and taste. If you're a fan of the Cadbury Turkish Delight bar, this is definitely the drink for you! The cup was big (and warm) enough to hug with both hands.

Tea Hot Choc; Cookies & Cream Pudding ($16)

Labelled as the "dessert of the month", the cookies & cream (a.k.a. C & C) pudding was seriously rich. The dish consisted of a dark chocolate pudding with a molten cookies & cream centre, topped with a cream cheese sauce, whipped cream and oreo crumbs, and served with a side of  vanilla bean ice cream and an oreo slick - perfect on a cold, winter's day. As the pudding was served warm, the whipped cream started to slowly melt (or it could just be all the cream cheese sauce) and the oreo cookie on top gradually slid to the plate.

Attack of the C & C Pudding

The pudding was more of a fondant with its cake-y exterior and a soft gooey centre that just oozed out when you cut through the pudding with a spoon. The vanilla ice cream had a slight white choc taste and was loaded with vanilla bean seeds - it wasn't quite creamy smooth but still good. The oreo slick reminded me of a dark chocolate ganache but I thought it tasted a little weird (perhaps too much butter?) as it was slightly savoury, yet not enough to cut through the overall sweetness of the dessert. I have to admit that by the end of the meal, I suffered from a sugar overload ... *flail*

Saporium has limited parking (restricted 2hrs), however it is accessible by bus (343, 309, 310, M20) from the city. There are a few other big name dessert stores (like Messina and Black Star Pastry) that are around the block so if you're on a local dessert food crawl, be sure to include The Choc Pot.

Disclosure: A huge thanks to Deej and The Choc Pot team for inviting MSG Cafeteria as guests to The Choc Pot, Rosebery. The food/drink consumed was paid by The Choc Pot in exchange for a review.
