Golden Palace Seafood Restaurant, Cabramatta

In celebration of the nuptials between Mr&Mrs L, their reception was held at Golden Palace Seafood Restaurant, which is in the heart of Cabramatta. Having rarely ventured out to the area, it was a bit of an eye-opening experience to drive through and walk in the neighbourhood.

The restaurant is located on the second floor of the building and the outside of the restaurant had been decorated as a massive photo-taking area so that guests could take photos with the bride and groom before they entered the restaurant.

By the time everyone arrived and was seated at their respective tables, it was well after 8pm and the courses of the Chinese Banquet (oh food... glorious food) was eventually served to guests:

BBQ Cold Cut Platter

The serving platter held a assortment of BBQ meats including roast duck, roast BBQ pork, braised beef and jellyfish. There was a pretty decent selection of food and everyone was served at least two pieces of each meat.

Steamed Baby Abalone

Usually at Chinese banquets, guests are severed a small slitter of braised abalone, served with broccoli and shiitake mushroom so when this arrived at the table, my jaw dropped. I was highly surprised that everyone on the table was being served a small steamed abalone! I guess it was a lead-up to the next item on the menu...

Seafood Spring Roll

This was nothing like your traditional "spring roll" - the inside contained whole prawns and scallops, coated in thick batter and then deep fried. I'm not quite sure how they were able to form these without it falling apart (so kudos to them) and the seafood inside were cooked perfectly.

Seafood and Fish Maw Soup

This soup was a little disappointing after the previous courses as the soup basically contained minuscule diced pieces of seafood that I could not identify.

Lobster in Ginger and Shallot with E-Fu Noodles

Yummmyyy... ample lobster cooked with ginger and shallots, and then cooked with the e-fu noodles so that they absorb all of the lobster juices and full of flavour. The lobster flesh was firm (sign that the meat was fresh) and cooked perfectly.

Salt & Pepper Quail

This was an interesting inclusion to the banquet menu, which was beginning to look like one extremely expensive meal. Yet the skin was crispy, well-seasoned with salt and pepper and the flesh was moist.

Stir Fried Seafood in Bird's Nest

This is another dish that I have never seen as part of a Chinese banquet. The "bird's nest" wasn't very crunchy but was filled with ample king prawns and crispy peas.

Steamed Silver Perch

Here are the remnants of the silver perch served at the table - the waitress was too quick at serving this out to guests before I could get a decent picture. The fish was enormous and steamed perfectly, flavoured with ginger, shallots and soy sauce.

Seafood Fried Rice

The savoury dishes of the banquet came to an end with the fried rice, which contained prawns, egg and shallots.

From Top Left, Clockwise: Wedding Cake; Homemade Cookies; Fruit Platter

Dessert came in the form of the wedding cake, homemade cookies and cakes, along with some fresh seasonal fruit (i.e. oranges and watermelon).

Unfortunately, if you are vegetarian, you'll be served with just a plate of stir-fried noodles with vegetables whilst you stare at all this food being served at the table...

This was by the latest running wedding reception that I have ever attended. The reception officially started 6:30pm but the bridal party spent the first two hours taking photos with incoming guests and food wasn't served until around 8:30pm - by which point I was starrrvinnnnggg... Fortunately the food made up for the wait as the last course was served at 10:30pm - definitely a record - and people had already started leaving.

Also, I have to say, this reception was marred by the fact that a small section of the restaurant had been sectioned off to host another party/reception, unbeknownst to the bride. Whenever we had any speeches, the music from the other party was so loud that we couldn't hear much (if anything) of what was being said, which was a pity.

Note to future self: make sure that you've booked out the entire restaurant, or at least make sure that there isn't another party running at the same time that could generate noise that could overpower any speeches being made.
