Girdlers, Brookvale

Hidden in the rabbit warren that is Warringah Mall, Girdlers is decorated with lush greenery across wide open spaces.

Entrance of Cafe

The cafe is spread across a large area but only provides three small sections of under-cover tables - there are a few scattered umbrellas, else you're exposed to the elements despite the rooftop battens. Fortunately for me, sitting at an uncovered table, there was only a brief sprinkle of rain before the clouds gradually parted to reveal brights rays of sunshine and blue sky.

The menu is rather extensive - includes burgers, buckwheat crepes, etc. - so it took some time before I could decide on what to get.

Deconstructed Hot Chocolate ($4.50)

The hot chocolate was served deconstructed - the cup was partially filled with a pre-made choc powder/cocoa mixture and served with a small jug of frothy milk, which allowed for at least 1.5 cups of chocolate-y goodness.

Goodness Bowl ($18) - Kale, Quinoa, Puffed Amarant, Boiled Egg,
Avocado, Sesame Seeds, Grilled Halloumi, Spring Onion,
Purple Kraut & Green Goddess Dressing.

The bowl had clean, balanced flavours - nothing overpowering or overtly flavoursome but an overall great option for a light, healthy lunch. Surprisingly, the haloumi wasn't that salty and the purple sauerkraut had just the right amount of acidity. However, I do question what exactly was in the green dressing because it didn't look appetising, nor did it taste of anything distinct, so I ended up setting it aside as I dug into the bowl. The dish was sufficient in portion size to fill me up and tide me over to the next meal (something that tends to not happen when I eat healthy bowls).

Kitchen Area

Girdlers is ideal for vegans and health-conscious people with their ample selection of on-trend health bowls and smoothies. They have numerous vegan and gluten-free options so there's bound to be something for everyone. Despite the large area occupied by the cafe, I don't feel like it's being used optimally (based on the positioning of tables) and the proportion of staff to customer is rather low, hence it can take some time before you can flag down a free waiter.
