Entrance to Night Noodle Market |
The food selection appeared to be the same as last year (with the most popular being Hoy Pinoy, Messina Gelato, Black Star x N2 Gelato), along a few new additions spread throughout the park.
One point of difference however is that there were actually duplicates of the more popular stalls, such as Hoy Pinoy - just follow the massive plumes of smoke that rise into the air and you'll find them.
Line to Hoy Pinoy |
Cooking Chicken Skewers |
Inihaw na Manok (2 for $13) - Chicken Skewers with Traditional Soy Glaze |
Unfortunately the chicken skewers were luke-warm at best but still juicy and moist, perhaps too much since they were smothered in sauce and dripping everywhere (make sure you grab a stack of tissues!).
This year, a new treat is on offer by Puffle - a savoury cheese-y egg waffle filled with either Korean fried chicken or bulgogi beef:
Puffle Stall |
I opted for the Korean fried chicken but the stall had a major issue of not being able to keep up with demand and continually churn out the waffles. It took over 45min (most during which the line did not move at all) before I got my hands on this baby:
Sweet & Spicy Chick N' Puffle ($16) - Sweet & Spicy Korean Fried Chicken with Kewpie Mayo, Fresh Shallots, On A Cheesey HK Egg Waffle |
Unfortunately the egg waffle wasn't warm (these were made in advance and sitting under a heat lamp for pretty much the entire duration of my wait), the batter tended to fall off the chicken pieces, and the sauce was too salty, which drew out the entire consumption of the egg waffle.
As the egg waffle included cheese, it was very filling and I didn't really have enough stomach space to fit a Gelato Messina dessert, which I had been eyeing all night ðŸ˜.
Gelato Messina Stall |
Aunty Tomsu's Cheesecake ($12) - Japanese Cheesecake, Strawberry & Cherry Blossom Cream, Strawberry Meringue, Strawberries & Strawberry Gelato | I Think I'm... Turning Sesame ($12) - Black Sesame Gelato, Condensed Milk Coffee Jelly, Miso Crunch, Banana Miso Bread, Vanilla Cream and Coffee Powder |
Fortunately, my food companions purchased different gelato options and therefore I was able to sample both. The gelatos was frozen solid (in what seemed like a blast chiller) so it took a while for them to soften but otherwise the flavours were bang on for both desserts. My personal favourite was the black sesame gelato, whereas the strawberry cheesecake gelato is more of general crowd-pleaser, but I'm not quite sure about the flavour combination of black sesame, coffee, miso and banana.
Entry is free from 5pm every night for two or so weeks but I do highly recommend that you attend early so as not to be disappointed by out-of-stock items or extreme night time crowds. Over the past few years, the Night Noodle Market has turned cashless event so come prepared and armed with a working debit/credit card.
