Hong Kong: The Lounge @ JW Marriott 香港JW萬豪酒店, Admiralty

In order to thank me for my hospitality during my aunt's stint in Sydney and knowing that I was a foodie, she decided to treat me for a meal at The Lounge inside the JW Marriott Hotel, Hong Kong, which is renowned for their afternoon tea buffets.

Let's say the experience was... seriously epic!

Entrance of Lounge

Afternoon tea at The Lounge runs from 3:30pm to 6pm so I had a light lunch beforehand to prepare myself for an afternoon feast and had every intention to skip dinner that night. 😂

Guests have the option to sit at dining tables inside inner rooms or at the coffee tables that offer vast views of the city (requires booking) through floor-to-ceiling glass windows, with some awesome view of the hotel looming above through the large glass pyramids across the ceiling of The Lounge:

The buffet itself included food ranging from fresh sushi and sashimi, made-to-order congee or noodles and dumplings, freshly cooked meat, salad vegetables, cheeses, steamed dumplings, petit fours, ice cream:

(surprisingly cos lettuce is placed next to the Sashimi counter)

Cakes, Tarts and Scones
Petit Fours
Movenpick Ice Cream Trove
Cakes and Fresh Fruit
Soft Serve Machines and Toppings

Here is a glimpse of the food options available:

Savoury Food Platter - Mussels; Beef Short Ribs; Crispy Quail; Prawn Toast;
Sashimi Platter (Salmon; Squid; Calamari; Clam; Conch)

Made-To-Order Bowl of Dumplings and Fish Balls,
along with Various Vegetables
Dessert Platter - Malay pancake; Matcha Tart; Duo Cheesecake; Mini Egg Tart;
Madeleine; Mochi; Jam Drop; Lemon Meringue; Choc Mousse
Mini Tubs of Movenpick Ice Cream

Food variety and quality was definitely top-notch, as you would expect when going such a buffet, and would definitely satisfy any picky eater.

What I thought was hilarious is how people were adding cheeses, dried fruit & nut mixes, or even gathering a plateful of salad leaves and tomatoes when they were eating at a buffet that offering such a wide range of food. My sister, who missed out on this food outing because of work and therefore absolutely jealous, advised that this was due to the fact that Western foods, as well as fresh salad vegetables, was extremely expensive in Hong Kong (e.g. costs over HK$100 for fresh pizza from Pizza Hut; HK$10 for 3-4 fresh tomatoes or potatoes at the local street markets) since these items were sourced from overseas.

Along with the smorgasbord of fine food, guests are offered their choice of drink - I opted for a simple English Breakfast, which came in a small, personal teapot accompanied by a small milk jar.

After consuming all that food, it took great effort to not just roll out the door...
